Jon Meacham To Be Honored With National Archives Foundation Highest Award

Washington, DCThe National Archives Foundation will honor Pulitzer Prize-winning author and presidential historian Jon Meacham with its prestigious Records of Achievement Award for his commitment to chronicling the American story.

The event will be held on the evening of Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at the National Archives in Washington, DC. As a special part of the program, Meacham will be interviewed by fellow award-winning author, historian and National Archives Foundation Board Member Michael Beschloss. 

“In Jon Meacham we will salute the leader of a new generation of historians who explore the American experience,” said Governor James J. Blanchard, Chair and President of the National Archives Foundation Board. “Our November 17 tribute promises to be a spectacular evening.”

As one of the most respected voices in American history, culture, and politics, Jon Meacham’s collective work helps Americans understand the character and motivation of our leaders while celebrating the great diversity of our nation. Meacham’s books include The Soul of America: The Battle for Our Better Angels, Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power, Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey of George Herbert Walker Bush, and his Pulitzer Prize winning book American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House.

“Jon Meacham’s body of work makes him a very deserving recipient of the National Archives Foundation’s highest award,” said Archivist of the United States David S. Ferriero. “I am very pleased that we can once again support the National Archives Foundation in presenting this prestigious honor as we begin to open up our facilities across the nation.”

The Records of Achievement Award is the National Archives Foundation’s highest honor bestowed on an individual whose contributions have fostered a broader national awareness of the history and heritage of the United States as exemplified in the National Archives’ records. Through their work, recipients educate, enrich, and inspire a deeper appreciation of our country, its ideals and its aspirations.
