Who is George Washingnome?

George Washingnome is the National Archives Foundation’s July 4th mascot, and he first appeared in the summer of 2023 as part of our July 4th celebrations. National Archives Store customers cast their votes to help name our patriotic character, and George Washingnome officially emerged in July 2023. While some might say he looks like he is channeling Uncle Sam, he boldly celebrates the 4th of July with fireworks, color, and a touch of whimsy. Handcrafted especially for us in the U.S.A., our very own gnome deserves to be displayed prominently on any day of the year.
