Jim Doumas is the Deputy Executive Director of the National Archives Foundation, where he oversees the implementation of the organization’s strategic vision and direction. He provides leadership to the Foundation’s staff and manages the coordination, development, and execution of the Foundation’s programs, strategic plans, and policies. In this capacity, Jim works closely with the Executive Director to ensure the Foundation’s mission is being met.
Jim serves as the primary liaison to Congress and played a pivotal role in securing appropriated funding for the renovation of The American Story exhibition. He also led the launch of the Foundation’s civics outreach initiative, which works to expand civic literacy and public understanding of American democracy and civic engagement.
In addition to managing special events and leading public programming efforts, Jim provides essential support to the Board of Directors, ensuring effective governance and strategic alignment. His comprehensive portfolio reflects a deep commitment to public service, education, and institutional growth.
Jim is an accomplished executive with more than 35 years of experience in organizational development, communications, fundraising, human resources, and campaign strategy. Before joining the Foundation, he served as Vice President of Sister Cities International and has led national and international nonprofit organizations, as well as local, state, and federal advocacy programs. He is also a seasoned campaign manager.
A graduate of Valparaiso University in Indiana, Jim moved to Chicago to start his own theatre company and worked as a community organizer on the city’s ethnically diverse northwest side. Originally from Long Island, New York, he now resides in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, with his spouse, Lauren Coletta.
