Marjorie B. Tiven
Board Member 2017- Present
Marjorie B. Tiven is the founder and president of Global Cities, Inc., a program of Bloomberg Philanthropies, working in cities worldwide to teach global civics through Global Scholars, its cross-national, interactive educational program. Global Cities develops an original curriculum—linked to explicit skill and attitudinal outcomes—every year, provides a global digital platform that allows students to learn from fellow students in other Global Scholars classrooms, organizes ongoing teacher professional development workshops, and subjects its teaching strategies and student learning outcomes to regular, independent evaluation. More than 93,000 students in 110 cities have participated in its program since 2013. Tiven served from 2002 through 2013 as New York City Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office for International Affairs, representing the City on issues with foreign governments and the United States government. Currently, she is on the board of the Citizens Union and the External Advisory Committee of the Neurofibromatosis Therapeutic Acceleration Program (NTAP) at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Tiven holds a B.A. from Antioch College and an M.S. from Columbia University School of Social Work. She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
