Monday, October 21, 2024
On October 21, 2024, the National Archives Foundation honored David Grann for his award-winning book Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI, first published in 2017. Martin Scorsese and Lily Gladstone were honored for their contributions on the 2023 film adaptation, which garnered 10 Academy Award nominations. The event was held at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. with the three awardees in a conversation moderated by decorated journalist Soledad O’Brien. Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear, Principal Chief of the Osage Nation, also made remarks during the program.
The Records of Achievement Award is the highest honor bestowed by the National Archives Foundation to an individual whose contributions have fostered a broader national awareness of the history and heritage of the United States as exemplified in the National Archives’ records.
Highlights of the celebration included a cocktail hour; theater program and award presentation; a seated dinner in the Rotunda and Rotunda Galleries – just steps away from the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution, and Bill of Rights; and a dessert reception on the portico.
