2019 Educators Open House

Calling all teachers! Join us for the 2019 Educators Open House at the National Archives in Washington DC and explore new resources to help create your lesson plans. This year’s Open House will feature a special public program held in conjunction with the exhibition Rightfully Hers. Education Specialists will be on hand to answer questions and share unique resources. Educators of all levels are welcome!
6:00–7:00 P.M.
Explore the Rightfully Hers: American Women and the Vote exhibit and visit the Charters of Freedom. Enjoy hors d’oeuvres while discovering resources, lesson plans, and programs for bringing primary sources from the National Archives into your classroom.
7:15–8:30 P.M.
Attend the panel discussion African American Women in the Suffrage Movement and the Battle for the Vote moderated by Scott Abbott, Social Studies Director, District of Columbia Public Schools and featuring A’Lelia Bundles, author of On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C. J. Walker; Shirley Moody-Turner, Professor of African American Studies, Pennsylvania State University, Elsa Barkley Brown, Professor of History and Women’s Studies, University of Maryland, and others.
Presented in partnership with the 2020 Women’s Vote Centennial Initiative, the National Council of Negro Women, and the League of Women Voters of the National Capital Area.
